Commissioning art is the process by which an artist creates a work of art on a client’s invitation. This invitation comes in many shapes and forms.  

Ian has been commissioned to paint a variety of subjects, portraits, plein air painted landscapes, pets including equine and still lifes of objects. Even occasionally work painted in the style of a particular artist. Each object, image or place would hold sentimental value for you the commissioner.

The Process

Some clients know what they want to commission, others look to the artist for help. This is where you would enter into a consultation with Ian. It is important to the artist that he has a clear brief. So sharing images or if required meeting up in order to create sketches.

Once you have settled on what you want and a commission fee settled, an agreement will be drawn up. In effect a commissioning contract. Invoicing will be in two instalments, a deposit to start and the balance on completion, means that both parties interests are protected.
